Working with jDes.

To best position your product/project we would need to:
- Do, or review your competitive analysis and positioning strategy
- Establish distribution parameters (for packaging, or direct mail)
- Establish a per unit production budget
- Establish a design budget
- Plan for expansion

Design:
All projects are bid based on specific parameters established by you, the client. If your direction is clear, this estimate includes final print ready art and production ready structures. We've done complete packaging systems for as little as $50 per structure, and as much as $36,000 for a single package (4 language with supporting materials). A typical packaging design project, excluding market research, according to the Graphic Artist's Guild Guide runs between $4000 - $26,000.

No two projects are really the same, so figures vary wildly. Costs depend on how much (or how little) market research and structural testing you're willing to undertake, and how clear you are in your design and marketing vision. In the long run, the more research you do up front, the better (and more cost effective) the overall outcome. If you're new to packaging and haven't done so already, review our article Starting a Packaging Project - Tips for Non-Packaging Designers.

Billing:
For new clients, we require 50% of the approved bid price up front, with running billing during the course of the project. If you like, a project can be broken down into defined project phases, with an incremental deposit due at the start of each section.

Payment options: Company check, certified check/money order (for non-incorporated first time clients), wire transfer, and PayPal (MC, Visa, Amex, Discover, e-check)
NOTE: PayPal options subject to 5% service fee.

Should you choose to cancel the project, funds remaining on deposit not used to cover outstanding invoices, would be refunded with no further obligation by you. Clients choosing a full pre-bill, are eligible for an additional discount on design time fees.

Late payments will be assessed a late fee, and are subject to account/delivery freeze. See invoice for fee detail.

International Clients:
All invoices are paid in US dollars.

Eco Discount:
Clients willing to do projects that maximize, and actively promote sustainability (eco-friendliness), are rewarded with a discount on design time fees.

Time to Completion and Rush Charges:
All bids are detailed with a reasonable completion timeline. Clients that require this timeline compressed after the bid is approved, will be assessed a rush charge comparative to the time and additional resources required to complete the project within the new time frame. A single timeline is defined by the parameters detailed in the bid. Should the client's overall direction change, a new bid will be issued, and a new timeline established.

A typical packaging project requires 3-5 months from initial bid to pack-out ready stage (includes: approval time, identifying suppliers, competitive research, prototype testing, printing/conversion, etc.). Graphics projects (any non-packaging print project), depending on photography, copy, and print needs, can run from one week to 3 months.

Getting Started:
Please review Start Project section in each department to help you pull together the info we need to make our first meeting the most productive.
