About jDes.

Opening its doors in the Twin Cities in 1996, Jedlicka Design (pronounced yed-Lich-ka) had its base established in New York in the early 80's. After working for other firms for years -- doing packaging graphics, graphic design, and international marketing -- Wendy Jedlicka, CPP (IoPP Certified Packaging Professional) felt it was time to strike out on her own. Her ideal firm would have an eco-aware philosophy and would be willing to focus on the impact designers are making on the environment.

"Though it's finally, but slowly, changing, most of my colleagues still turn a blind eye to the work they're doing, putting all responsibility with the client. I suppose because they just see the job as decorating available space. Yet if they stopped a moment and talked to that client, they'd see that no one -- not the printer, their supplier or converter -- stepped up to offer them eco-responsible alternatives that fit with their marketing goals. People in our industry are still only making the most shallow efforts. While study after study shows the consumer is taking a greater interest in how a product is packaged and produced. And they are using that perception as a way of evaluating purchase decisions." says Jedlicka in one breath.

"I'd be a big liar if I said I never did a job that was less than eco -- sometimes the alternatives are just not there yet. But what I can tell you, is that my clients at least -- know -- their options before the project starts" she concludes.

Some designers think when they use recycled or recycle able materials they've done all that can be done eco-wise. Materials alone though are really a small part of the equation. Stakeholder impacts, supply chain factors, and end user satisfaction are all integral parts of successful, profitable -- and sustainable -- solutions. Finding a design team that can think outside the box is the key.

To meet our goals and offer our clients seamless support, Jedlicka Design has gathered together in a close working relationship, design professionals committed to delivering high quality, eco-minded design products. Jedlicka Design makes it its business to not only understand the needs of marketing our clients' products today, but to understand what impact those decisions will have tomorrow.
